Monday, March 25: The time in Argentina was two hours ahead of New York. The plane arrived at Kennedy Airport at six a.m. local time, so the flight took 10 hours 25 minutes. They served breakfast on the plane an hour before we landed. After clearing customs, we rechecked our bags. Later, when we were able to switch our flight to Dulles from 11:00 to 8:55 flight, it was a minor problem that we had checked the luggage for the original 11:00 flight.

We waited until seven a.m. to call Joseph. We wanted to inform Julia about the change of flights, but also to find our if he'd heard anymore about Grandpa. He told us that Grandpa had died Sunday at three p.m. (CST). That was five p.m. in Argentina, 90 minutes before we'd left for the airport there. As we feared, we were too late. All we could do now was to get to Wisconsin as soon as possible.

The United Express flight to Dulles was in a 29-passenger J41 turboprop. It flew much lower than the big jets do, so we had a good view of the ground. We reached Dulles at 10:20. Julia met us and drove us to Culpeper where we had lunch at her house. We made some calls to the airlines about flights to Wisconsin early the next morning, then left for Massanutten to repack for that trip. We got home around three.

It had been a wonderful trip, but what a sad ending.
